Zack Zadek
“The Turning” Composer, Lyricist, Bookwriter
Composer/lyricist, writer, and songwriter with Warner/Chappell, Zack Zadek has been named by Playbill as “A Contemporary Musical Theatre Songwriter You Should Know”, and was a MacDowell Fellow, a VCCA Fellow, and is a 2019 Dramatist Guild Fellow. Zack won the Weston New Musical Award for his book, music, and lyrics to DEATHLESS (dir. Tina Landau) which was produced at Goodspeed Musicals in 2017. His work has been developed and presented at The Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, Roundabout, The 5th Avenue Theatre, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, The Lark, Arena Stage, SPACE at Ryder Farm, Goodspeed Musicals, Weston Playhouse, Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival, Legacy Theatre, NYMF, and in the UK at the London Theatre Workshop and Edinburgh Fringe. Other pieces include THE CRAZY ONES (dir. Sam Buntrock, Hunter Bird), THE ROLE OF A LIFETIME (dir. Jerry Mitchell), and 6 (dir. Max Friedman).
Zack won the inaugural Got Musical! award from Disney Imagineering/NMI, and was recognized as a finalist for the 2019 and 2018 Kleban Prize, Jonathan Larson Grant, Sigworks at Signature Theatre, and KSF Artists of Choice. He has also been in residence at The Johnny Mercer Writers Colony, The Mitten Lab, The Civilians R&D Group, and is a founding member of Musical Theatre Factory.
Alongside some of Broadway and West End’s biggest names, Zack has headlined concerts at The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Webster Hall, Highline Ballroom, Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, (le) Poisson Rogue, Rockwell Table and Stage and other venues around the world while performing his own work. Zack has also scored films for emerging filmmakers that have been seen at Cannes Film Festival, and beyond. As a pop songwriter, he has written songs with artists from every major label group.
Zack graduated with honors from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, and Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing at the Tisch School of the Art and has taught masterclasses at universities across the country including The Interlochen Center for the Arts, National Theatre Institute at The O’Neil, and more. Upcoming projects include STORE BRAND (dir. Jaki Bradley) being developed by The Civilians and current commissions from Mike Bosner Productions, Jill Furman Productions, Arena Stage, and Ars Nova. He is a member of ASCAP and The Dramatists Guild and currently a writer-in-residence at The Orchard Project Greenhouse, The Civilians, and Ars Nova.
